Meltdown on the South Bank

Yesterday we managed to catch a documentary movie about Roky Erickson of the 13th Floor Elevators, followed by a performance by the KPM All-Stars - including Alan Hawkshaw, Keith Mansfield, Alan Parker & Brian Bennett - with vocals from Madeline Bell. KPM is a music library - like De Wolfe (of the Sweeney theme tune) - most famous for the themes to Sportsnight and Grandstand. The label's composers also worked with a number of pop acts, with a number of the label musicians acting as session players. I have a few KPM compilations, but it was worth going to the Queen Elizabeth Hall to hear a funky version of the Grndstand theme, shaking everybody down. These guys are in their 60s and demonstrated such energy, committment and drive, that it would put most of us to shame.

As for lunch...the iPOD Perv and I tried out The Baltic on the corner of Blackfriars Road and The Cut. The lamb was exquisitely tender - a really filling stew with white beans. The barsz (beetroot soup) was great and just the way I like it (without dumplings). I have been told that the cherry and strawberry vodkas are to die for (as is the blonde waitress from Gdansk).
